From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
W. Wilson Goode, Jr. is a City Councilman At-Large in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Goode Jr., the son of former Philadelphia Mayor W. Wilson Goode, was born on August 9, 1965. Goode Jr. graduated from Central High School and the University of Pennsylvania.
After working on Wall Street and Capitol Hill, Goode Jr. lost his nomination bid for councilman at large in the 1991 Democratic primary election, but was appointed by Mayor Edward G. Rendell to an economic development position in 1992.
Goode Jr. was elected City Councilman At-Large in 1999, with the political support of Democratic mayoral nominee John F. Street. Goode, Jr. handily won re-election as City Councilman At-Large in 2003.
Goode Jr. received more votes in African-American wards than any other council-at-large candidate and was considered a possible 2007 Democratic mayoral candidate at the start of his second council term, but he did not enter the race. Instead, Goode Jr. was re-elected to serve for a third term on City Council, again receiving more votes than any other council candidate in African-American wards. In fact, Goode Jr. placed first in 37 of the 66 wards in the November 2007 municipal general election.
Councilman Goode serves as Chairman of Philadelphia City Council's Committee on Commerce and Economic Development.
