Hi W-screen, and Welcome to Wikipedia!

Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy the encyclopedia and want to stay. As a first step, you may wish to read the Introduction.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me at my talk page — I'm happy to help. Or, you can ask your question at the New contributors' help page.

How you can help:

Additional tips...

  • Please sign your messages on talk pages with four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically insert your "signature" (your username and a date stamp). The Image:Signature_icon.png button, on the tool bar above Wikipedia's text editing window, also does this.
  • If you would like to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
Good luck, and have fun. --~~~~

This template employs intricate features of template syntax.
You are encouraged to familiarise yourself with its setup and parser functions before editing the template. If your edit causes unexpected problems, please undo it quickly, as this template may appear on a large number of pages.
Remember that you can conduct experiments, and should test all improvements, in either the general Template sandbox or your user space before changing anything here.

[edit] Instructions

  • To greet a user with this template just as it appears above (your signature will automatically replace the ~~~~), place the following wikicode on the user's talk page:
{{subst:w-screen}}
  • If your signature already includes a dash of any sort, you should use:
{{subst:w-screen|sig=~~~~}}
  • To add a message before the last sentence, use:
{{subst:w-screen|message}}
Replace message with your desired message. It will be inserted into the greeting before "Good luck, and have fun."
  • To add a (level-2) heading above the box, use:
{{subst:w-screen|heading=text}}
The heading will be titled as what you replace text with.
  • To make the template transparent, for use on custom-designed talk pages with built-in formatting, use:
{{subst:w-screen|clear=true}}
  • The above options can be combined:
{{subst:w-screen|Wikipedia is far better than Britannica.|heading=true|headtext=Welcome to Wikipedia}}
