[edit] Swedes??

Factual accuracy dispute on section On the ethnic identity of the Wægmundings:

Doesn't sound a reasonable assumption. First, we cannot refer to the Swedish people of today, since such a nationality didn't exist until, say 1400ths (Engelbrecht rebellion, Charles IV Bonde), in embryonic form, not until say the 1100ths... So we may assume:

  • geats, either east geats, or west geats, since the competing clans were the Wulfings occupying the east geatish position, west geats remains,
  • sviar used to be referred to as Swedes in English, ...

Between sviar and west geats we cannot reasonably choose, since that would be erecting speculation to facts! We should instead choose unknown as the proper choice, not any pseudofact. Said: Rursus 10:04, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Doesn't look controversial. Have you seen Beowulf (2007 film)? They even let the Waegmunding Wiglaf state that his mother lives in Uppland.--Berig (talk) 19:34, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
