—Vyttila is a rapidly expanding commercial area in the city of Kochi, India. This urban area is home to numerous business establishments, hops automobile showrooms and small industries. Vyttila also connects the southern end of the city to the National Highway NH 47. Till 1967, Vytilla was a panchayat. However the November 1967 order of the Kerala Legislative Assembly amalgamated Vytilla to the newly formed Kochi Corporation.
Today Vyttila is one of the prime gateways to the Queen of the Arabian Sea - the city of Kochi, formerly called Cochin. It is the undoubtedly the biggest and the busiest junction in the state of Kerala. The National Highway 47 bypasses the city of Kochi through Vyttila and this busy highway in turn is intercepted by an ever-busy traffic-packed Sahodaran Ayyappan Road, also called the S.A. Road. Apart from this there are two more roads starting from the junction, one heading to Thammanam and the other to Kaniampuzha, thereby making it the biggest and businest junction in Kerala. Places like Janatha, Power-house, Thykoodam, Kaniampuzha, Ponnurunni etc are all located in close proximity to Vytilla.
Vyttila is presently besing tranformed into more of a commercial location. However the area surrounding the junction are thickly populated. Being located on the highway and at the same time with easy access to the city center, Vyttila forms a prominent node of the city. Travelling to the city interiors as well as to other districts, especially Thrissur, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki is much easy because Vyttila is well connected by long distance buses as well as city service buses. This in turn makes it one of the best choice for residence for the floating community in Kochi. The roads and lanes on either side of S.A. Road and the NH are filled with residential buildings. Vyttla is also home to hospitals like Welcare Hospital and Mother & Child Hospital. Banks like the State Bank of India, State Bank of Travancore, Punjab National Bank, Corporation Bank, Vijaya Bank, Bank of Baroda, Federal Bank, South Indian Bank all have branches in this area. Toc H Public School, one of the best known schools in the state of Kerala is also located very close to Vyttila. There are several supermarkets (prominent among them include V-Mart and the Margin Free Market chain of mini-super markets) in this area in addition to several mom & pop stores and pharmacies. Eateries like K.R Bakes, Aryaas, Best Bakers, delight Bakers and traditional 'Thattukadas' are also decent hangouts for people across age aroups in the junction.
There are several residents' associations for each area in Vyttila. However, the Vyttila Residents' Welfare Association is the most prominent among them. The association which is based at Maplachery Road, covers the entire south-west area from Vyttila junction with Maplachery Road and Bank Road as its borders. A new international standard bus station is planned to construct at Vyttila, which is supposed to put an end to the never ending traffic hazzles in the city caused by entry of Long Distance buses.Over all good place to live
