Vyara is located at 21.12° N 73.4° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 69 metres (226 feet).

As of 2001 India census[2], Vyara had a population of 36,213. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Vyara has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 69%. In Vyara, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Vyara town was ruled by Gaekwad, and it has still a fort of the Gaekwad family.The Community risiding here mainly constitute of Chaudhary, Gamit, Patel,Shah, Desai, Maharashtrian,Darji and others. The town has a large migrants from UP, Rajasthan etc. community Peoples.

Vyara is also the birthplace of Amarsingh Chaudhry (died 2003), ex-Chief Minister of the Gujarat State.

Vyara is the headquarter of the Tapi District which came into existence on date 2nd October, 2007 by the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi. Tapi District Created which includes fives talukas vyara, songadh, Valod, Nizar, Ucchal. The District got separated from Surat District.
