Vuyyuru

Vuyyuru is a town and Mandal headquarters in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located on the N.H 9 highway between Vijayawada and Machilipatnam about 25 km from vijayawada and 39 km from machilipatnam.

The population of Vuyyuru is 43269.

[edit] Agriculture

Primarily vuyyuru is based on agriculture and agriculture based industry. A major portion of land here is very fertile. Irrigation canals which draw water from river krishna flow all over the region. At an average per acre 40 tonnes of sugar cane can be drawn from this region. There wont be much drinking water problem. A small dam and bridge was constructed during the British period on the main canal in the town. This bridge served the locals for more than a century. Currently it was closed by government. And a new bridge was constructed beside it.

Prior to establishing of KCP sugar factory there was not irrigation facilities so people used to cultivate only paddy. This sugar unit was established at Vuyyuru in the year 1941. Now sugar cane is cultivated all around. KCP with a crushing capacity of 8500 TCD is one of the largest sugar factories in the country and also one among the most modern. KCP has a cogeneration plant which produces 15 MW of power per day.

One of the biggest sugar factories in India is in vuyyuru. KCP And its group of industries are founded by Velagapudi Rama Krishna (Retd. ICS Officer). There is a subsidiary of KCP , known as KIC which produces CO2 (Soda gas). A lot of farmers, who grow sugar-cane, bring the harvest to this factory during the season. The season usually starts in the months of October and ends in April. KCP Sugar factory was the first to start production of ethanol in south India

There are several famous personalities from Vuyyuru

  1. Late Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao - A minister in the Cabinet of NTR and Chandrababu Naidu. A prominent leader in "Jai Andhra" Movement
  2. Late Kakani Venkataratnam - A minister in the Cabinets of Kasu Brahmananda Reddy and P.V.Narasimha Rao
  3. Late Sridhar Surapaneni - An old telugu movie hero "Mutyala Muggu" fame was born and brought up in neighbouring "Kummamuru" village.
  4. Chandra Mohan - An actor , character artist in telugu movie industry was from neighbouring Pamidimukkala Mandalam.
  5. Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao - One among the "Paruchuri Brothers" Duo. Famous for their scripting talents in telugu movie industry. He is born and brought up in a neighbouring village called "Meduru".

Vuyyuru hosts many famous educational institutions. Siddartha A.G & S.G College of Arts and Science is a college which offers intermediate and Degree courses. Its a government college affiliated to Nagarjuna University. Sri Srinivasa College is a private college which offers intermediate and Degree courses. There are several famous private schools like flora Public school , Sri ViswaSanthi English Medium School, Vuyyuru Public School, Gemini Public school , Shantiniketan Public School. These schools offer Day and Residential studies from Nursery to 10th standard Flora public school in collaboration with state-wide famous educational institution "Narayana Colleges". There are 3 government schools located in vuyyuru. zilla praja parishad school. CBM girls school (supported partly by Baptist missionaries). VRKM school (supported partly by KCP Sugar factory).

The Government general hospital is located in Katuru Road There are 2 famous hospitals in Vuyyuru

. CBM (Canadian Baptist Mission) hospital, which was established during British rule. They provide eye related treatment (like cataract) and General treatment for a nominal amount . Rotary eye hospital , Which is an encouraged by KCP sugar factory and local residents. It is located 2 kilometers away from Vuyyuru. They provide treatment at nominal rates

A famous village deity fondly called "Veeramma" temple is located in Vuyyuru. The village fair is celebrated during February every year. Its duration is 15 days. A Shiva Temple constructed by Kakatiya's during 13th Century is located in the heart of vuyyuru A Venkateswara Swamy Temple is located in Mantada. Its too a very famous temple in its vicinity CBM (Canadian Baptist Mission) church was constructed prior to independence. An old Mosque nearly 300 years old located on Machilipatnam - Pune N.H.9 in the heart of the town. Recently the mosque was renovated.

Fully computerised branches of Andhra Bank (with ATM) , State bank of indi (with ATM), Indian Bank (with ATM), Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) are situated in Vuyyuru. There Are several private financial institutions like Shri Ram chits and co-operative bank

There are 7 movie theatres in Vuyyuru. There are 4 lodges with hotel facility. There are 6 function halls in Vuyyuru. Out of which four are constructed and maintained by KCP sugar factory. Sudheer timber depot well known for its quality timber is located in Yakamuru a neighbouring village of vuyyuru. With the advent of IT and booming markets, the price of lands has risen astronomically in Vuyyuru and its surrounding areas. A large section of people from this region are settled in hyderabad, Bangalore , Chennai and US working in IT sector.

A bypass road was constructed around 1987. which divert's the traffic from vuyyuru roads. This bypass road connects Machilipatnam - Hyderabad national highway no.9. After constructing this road all heavy vehicles are redirected to move over this road to decongest the traffic jam in town. Currently large tracks of land on either side of this road are sold at very high prices ranging Rs.1-2 lakhs per cent. This bypass road was neglected by the governments for a long time till 2001. After 2001 AP state government built a some government offices along this road like police station, village panchayat office , Mandal register office, RTA office.

Neighbouring villages like Iluru , thotlavalluru are located on the banks of Krishna river. Every year during summer state government giveaway sand mining works via bids. A famous shiva temple located in Iluru ,temple fair is conducted during the end of February here. Which attracts a large number of devoties.

vuyyuru has one representative in andhrapradesh assembly. There are 122756 electorate in vuyyuru assembly constituency spread over 3 mandals.

Vuyyuru can be connected by Road. It is located on National Highway no.9 which connects Machilipatnam and Hyderabad. There is no train or Air connectivity to this place. The nearest railway station is vijayawada railway station,which is 30 km away. The nearest airport is Gannavaram Airport, which is 30 km away.

State government owned bus service APS RTC established bus stand and bus depot during 1987. The then chief minister of the state Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao laid the foundation stone for the project. During 2006-07 the bus depot was closed citing loss making division.
