[edit] 1 Vutdevuk

Vutdevuk is a progressive-rock music project that is led by Brady Arnold, who performs all of the music and vocals in his home studio. The name Vutdevuk was inspired by the title of a Wishbone Ash song called "vas dis?", meaning "what's this?" If pronounced right, Vutdevuk sounds like you are saying: "What the f*ck!". Their style of music is mostly progressive rock that sometimes leans into the realm of pop. Vutdevuk is based out of New Port Richey, Florida (USA). Their latest CD was titled "Turn of the Tides" which was originally released in the Spring of 2006.

[edit] 2 History

Brady Arnold started the Vutdevuk project in the Fall of 1993 when he broke away from his first group Stonehenge. Armed with a 4-tracker and a few other instruments, he recorded his first LP "Psychotrax" which is no longer in circulation. In 1997 (after a few years of practice) Brady started to develop the signature Vutdevuk sound with the recording of the LP "Primal Distortions". Things really picked up in the year 2000 with the much needed upgrade of recording equipment, and music instruments. In the following year Brady finished the "United States of Unconsciousness" LP, which was the first to be recorded with 16 track equipment.

Over the next three years (2002-2004) Brady worked non-stop on three more ground breaking LPs including "Anti-Human", "Ice Age", and "Inner Turmoil". 2005 started as a busy year for Vutdevuk but ended with confusion concerning musical direction. Brady began to view his works as old baggage, something that was no longer in alignment with his spiritual beliefs. In late 2005 Brady made the first of many announcements that Vutdevuk was finished, and that he was starting a new project called "Spirit Switchboard". The SS project has failed to surface to this day.

In February of 2006, Brady put the Spirit Switchboard project on Ice and made his first attempt at resurrecting Vutdevuk. The first order of business was to finish mixing and mastering the "Turn of the Tides" LP which was previously recorded over the Spring and Summer of 2005. Getting the domain name back was not as easy because it was not renewed and it ended up falling into the hands of a poacher. Over the next two years Brady would struggle with direction, constantly switching back and forth from Vutdevuk to Spirit Switchboard, and back again! In 2007 vutdevuk.com was re-opened by Brady, and has remained on-line ever since!

As of now (April 2008), Brady is trying to do more commercial sounding music (under a different artist name), but he says that he plans on doing another Vutdevuk LP in 2008. Let's just hope that he's learning to live with the old baggage, because a lot of it still sounds good to us!

[edit] 4 Reviews

"A step above the rest... Constant improvement - that is the course of any progressive musician. Vutdevuk (Brady Arnold) does just that. With each new CD, one will find more and more inspiration, but one can also hear the strong musical intellect which bonds all of the Vutdevuk material together." -Adam Wheeler

"Brady combines both class symphonic and modern “neo” styles to get a moody collection of songs...Vocally Brady has a warmth and familarity to it...I’m sure once you listen to his voice, you’ll agree!" -Ron for ProgNaut.com

"Brady Arnold is one hell of a talented guy. He writes these songs of impressive complexity and then plays them as well..." -A&A Reviewer
