The image you uploaded depicting [Image:Hurricane Ivan I-10 Damage.jpg damage to I-10 caused by Hurricane Ivan] is a very nice illustration of the hurricane's damage. I also have to thank you for putting an actual description on the page, which most people neglect.

Unfortunately, the "no third-party redistribution" is not acceptable because it limits our ability to redistribute our work, and a push has begun to remove such images from Wikipedia. As such, I've listed the image on Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. Sorry. -- Cyrius| 01:35, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

The copyright holder's specific response to my enquiry was, "You may use them [the images available at http://pensacolabeachliving.com] with appropriate credit and link to lifescapephoto.com". I did not want to overstep the bounds of this authorization, hence the no third-party designation. However, I realize that this might be interpreted as, "Anyone may use them with appropriate credit and link to lifescapephoto.com" instead. Before I ask him to clarify this point, please comment on whether that would be acceptable, or if it's required that they be licensed under the GFDL (or similar) or put into the public domain. The various free licenses are listed on Wikipedia:Image copyright tags under the "Free licenses" section. A simple "must provide credit and link" is quite acceptable. Our major issues are "does the license allow us to redistribute", and "does it allow for derivative works", with the first being the most important.
And kudos for considering the copyright holder's rights. So many people just grab an image, upload it, and slap a "fair use" tag on the description page. It's depressing, really. -- Cyrius| 02:01, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Don't let anthony "(see warning)" get to you, he's widely known for being annoying. I'll say something in the morning. -- Cyrius| 04:40, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Could you please write the articles before creating tons of redirects? RickK 05:39, Oct 3, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:VTCC_Crest.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:VTCC_Crest.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 00:46, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
