(warning: spoiler) I don't get it - when did Feran have time to wear Silverdeath?

When we first meet Feran, he's known as Cypher. Somewhere during the book he wears Silverdeath and turns into Feran. But it doesn't make sense! When does that happen? It seems that Silverdeath is all the time under the control or possession of Warsovran..

He doesn't wear Silverdeath (not until the end, anyway.) What makes you think he does? Cypher and Feran are the same man.
