"Ashes to Ashes" is an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, the 18th episode of the sixth season.
[edit] Plot
An alien contacts Voyager and claims to be a deceased member of the crew, Ensign Lyndsay Ballard. She explains that an alien race, the Kobali, reanimated her. The race reproduces by altering the DNA of dead individuals of other races. She escaped her new family to find Voyager.
The crew is skeptical at first but the Doctor's scans confirm her story. Ballard decides to return to her old job in Engineering and try to resume her old life. The Doctor tries to restore her human form. Harry Kim, who went to Starfleet Academy with Ballard, tries to rekindle a romance he once had with her. Ballard has trouble getting used to her old life and can't even enjoy her favorite food. The Doctor's attempts to restore her human characteristics fail.
Things become complicated when her Kobali adoptive father comes for her. He demands to have his "daughter" back. At first Ballard refuses. But she soon realizes that she no longer belongs among the Voyager crew, and that her place is with the Kobali. She returns to her new family.

Ballard's motto of "Own the day", taken from a Klingon battle cry, is markedly similar to Horace's phrase "Carpe diem".
