- Keep. See LaGrange, Illinois (not to brag) for a good example of what Rambot can become. It's not a great article, but it's much better than what would be there if users were working on their own. [[User:Meelar|Meelar (talk)]] 20:07, 2004 Aug 17 (UTC)

- Based on the first edit to this page, I believe Eequor, but agree that info was not obvious by the this article's format.

- Keep. No doubt Wikipedia has had balance problems since it was created. The solution is not to remove information, but to encourage greater contribution. "Too many" U.S. geographic entries strikes me as an excellent motivator to add more information about the whole world. Jeff Q 14:26, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Transwiki to Wikibooks. This information should be kept somewhere, but an encyclopedia is not an atlas. - RedWordSmith 03:25, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Do not do that! Wikibooks if for textbooks not data dumps. The information is more appropriate in an encylopedia than in wikibooks. [[User:Theresa knott|]] 13:32, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Yes, wikisource would be more appropriate, as this is essentially non-editable public domain information. anthony (see warning) 21:27, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

- Delete or move. Most entries created by rambot are about places in the United States few people are interested about, and there even seems to be errors in some of the data. If we were to apply "equality", we would have to create similar entries about all sub-national units in all countries in the world, and most of Wikipedia's databases would consist in boilerplate information about tiny villages. Boilerplate entries should be moved to a gazetteer (another WikiProject?). David.Monniaux 08:37, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

- Also, WAY too arbitrary--size is just one of many factors that determine the notability of a given community. Location, geography, battles and other historical events, famous people born there, things invented there, locations of particularly notable crimes are just a few of the examples I can think of. - Keep. This is still a bad distinction. I think we can safely delete pages made solely by a bot based on raw public domain data, but if these articles have been edited at all then they should be kept and only the raw data removed. anthony (see warning) 21:32, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

All content about the usefulness or appropriateness of Rambot itself has been moved to Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/User:Rambot. VfD is only for the discussion of deletion nominations. (Apologies if I moved something too aggressively. This is a difficult thread to untangle.) Rossami 01:29, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
