Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Portal Medicine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Someone is trying to start off Portals on en.wikipedia, and this page is a half-translated effort from the German wikipedia that has no merits. Portals are typically a community effort, and this has not been floated with anyone concerned.

- DELETE: Oh, heck no! No, no, no, no. Wikipedia is not Yahoo. (We all know that organization is a problem. We all know that the lack of hierarchies is troubling sometimes. We all know that the project has grown agglutinatively. We almost all know that portals are icky death by exsanguination, I hope.) Geogre 00:51, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)

- Call me ignorant, but I don't get it. Makes no sense to me it all. In general I try to avoid judging things I don't understand, but the entire point of an encyclopedia is to explain things. Miserable failure there. Delete. -R. fiend 06:03, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)
I'll try to explain, as I'm on de.wikipedia (neither did I create Portal Medicine nor can I speak for anyone on de.wikipedia excepct myself):
- The de.Portal pages tend to be closely related to Project pages in the Wikipedia namespace. The consistency between all these is limited, but for large number of, these Portal/Project hybrids work like topic specific versions of New Articles, Missing Articles, Articles needing cleanup, Excellent Articles.
- Putting the Portal side of this in the main namespace, and promoting it as an entry point for the topic, is a mixed successs. But the german equivalent of Browse Wikipedia by topic was worse.

- DELETE This is the English language version of Wikipedia. It is not supposed to be a free screw-around area for someone trying to learn how to translate a page from German to English. Its not supposed to be a ODP-style search directory either.--Cynical 13:34, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Delete muchly but assume good faith. The contributor has started to translate it, and probably means to go on, and surely may have meant well. Bishonen 17:11, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)
