- Contribution to faircopyright.ca, if that's him, establishes coolness; alas notability is not so clear.
Delete. Samaritan 06:37, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)- Abstain for now, waiting on further arguments/hopefully consensus on notability of world-ranked university debaters. Samaritan 21:32, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Strong keep. His competitive achievements make him far more notable than just the office of CUSID president. Not all presidents of CUSID are listed with their own entries, only those who were also competitive debaters of international note. Being one of the world's top debaters makes him notable to anyone researching debating and debaters, just like famous athletes. Fenster 10:14, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Oh come on, not only did he not win the world championship but he's a semi-finalist. Good for one's resume but not good enough to justify an article. AndyL 22:36, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- If the gold medal winner from 1993 doesn't merit an entry why does someone whose greatest achievment is being a semi-finalist merit one?AndyL 02:50, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)

- Delete: At present a perfect merge and redirect, but the article to which it should be merged does not exist yet, so I am left only with "delete," despite the worthiness of the figure. (And the bit on faircopyright.ca would be the kind of thing that would make this person not just a tabular entry.) Geogre 16:13, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep; somewhat notable. --Daniel C. Boyer 20:48, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Agree with Daniel. Academic Challenger 00:55, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

- My last word on this: when Andy on The Apprentice has his achievement of being a "nationally-ranked high school debater" stand as his famous accomplishment, surely being the national college champion, or top 10 in the world at the university level, is worth some notability. Someone asked for an example of a fan site to show that non-participants are interested in varsity debating -- here is a rather elaborate one: [1]. -- Fenster 07:38, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Your mention of the Apprentice supports my argument that being a "nationallly ranked" debater makes a good resume entry but its not an argument for it being an encyclopedia entry. 14:54, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Being an NCAA or Olympic champion is a great resume entry too. Shall we delete everyone whose claim to fame is non-professional achievements such as those? The reason I cited the Apprentice was because someone mentioned that "general awareness" as a criterion. Well if it's the main claim to fame for someone on a show as stupid and mainstream as the Apprentice, then it can't be so esoteric an activity, can it? And that's non-champion status in HIGH school debating, which I'm not advocating articles for. -- Fenster 19:08, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
