[edit] Julian Barendse
Delete. This page is obviously a vanity page, with no possibility to become encyclopedic.Theusualsuspect 09:55, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
- A few things. Firstly, this entry is not a vanity page, as it was not written by Barendse himself. Secondly, User:Theusualsuspect is involved in Victorian student politics, on the opposing side to Barendse, and this should be stated. Thirdly, I myself am a student politician from a different faction to Barendse. Having said all that, it's my considered opinion (has been for some time), acknowledging my own biases, that this article should not exist. It's simply not feasible to create and maintain accurate and verifiable articles on most Australian student politicians, usually because they're in office for a year at most and they usually don't do anything that distinguishes them from any other student office-bearers around the place. Slac speak up! 10:36, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
- Keep. The national president of a political faction is inherently encyclopaedic. Xtra 10:48, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
- On the contrary, an insignificant student political faction is of less importance than the national student representative body. I note in this connexion that the president of the National Union of Students is not listed on the NUS entry, nor does she or he have her or his own entry (especially not one created by her or himself or admirers).
- the basis of your comment is factually incorrect and vindictive. as such, i see no point responding. Xtra 09:07, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- Particularly in a year such as this, Eldridge (the NUS president) most certainly deserves an article too. How many times does someone have to feature prominently in the media before they are notable enough to receive an article? I'm hardly an admirer of Barendse either - he's utter scum, but I'd rather see neutral articles on both sides, and let the facts speak for themselves. Ambi 15:18, 11 May 2005 (UTC)

- Keep. As per Xtra. C.f. Christopher Pyne or Natasha Stott Despoja --ScottDavis 12:05, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
- He's hardly on the same page as those two, but I see your point. --bainer 00:11, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
- Delete. For god's sake, the guy's just not important.

- Strong keep. Voluntary Student Unionism is a major issue here right now, and this bastard has had a large role in it on a national level. Ambi 15:12, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
- Delete unless article is improved. It details more a current event than the person the article is allegedly about.
Whilst it is not POV, a few sentences verge upon it.There obviously doesn't appear to be much to say about him, so I suggest merging (with redirect) the article with Australian Liberal Students' Federation.--Cyberjunkie 15:57, 9 May 2005 (UTC)- Then fix the article. The current event is precisely what makes him notable. Ambi 15:18, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- Barendse's role in the VSU debate is peripheral at best, and largely revolves around the activities of former ALSF members who are now MPs, such as Sophie Panopoulos. ALSF and the Liberal Club are very minor players in Australian student politics. Unless he becomes an MP, this entry is not notable. Just having this entry is in my view a breach of the neutral point of view. Theusualsuspect
- I don't understand that assertion " Just having this entry is in my view a breach of the neutral point of view ". could you please explain? Xtra 06:34, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

- Keep, as much as I don't like Liberals, this guy is an important one at the student level, and a significant student polly around campus at the University of Melbourne. --bainer 01:43, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
- Strong Keep, Julian was a major participant in drafting the VSU legislation, and is a major player in student politics and politics in general. It is inevitable that he will have a listing in the future anyway, given the hatred he already insights from students. --NewBrownShoe 01:43, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
- Keep for his role in drafting the VSU legislation and student politics (current events), and important as a stub as his career develops in the world of business and/or politics.--Takver 02:39, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
- Delete: I just want to say how ridiculous it is to say this should be keep in case his career develops in 'the world of business and/or politics'. What is wrong with you people? He is a minor player at best. He is a peripheral figure even within the Melbourne Law School. Most people don't even know who he is...

- Keep. He is a relatively high ranking student politician and was involved in drafting the VSU legislation. I think that makes him significant. The article does need some editing though. - Bambul 02:48, 1 June 2005 (UTC)
