Vostochny Cosmodrome
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Vostochny Cosmodrome is a planned Russian spaceport, to be located in the Amur Oblast, in the Russian Far East. Construction will begin in 2010, after a feasibility study determines its exact location. Completion is expected by 2018, with the first unmanned launches scheduled to take place in 2015[1] and manned launches by 2018.[2]
The site will be used initially to reduce Russia's dependence on the Baikonur cosmodrome, however it is expected to eventually replace it.
Russian authorities reported to the press on November 21, 2007 that president Vladimir Putin had signed a decree authorizing the construction of the new launch facility.[2]
