Vortex Optics is an American company developing and manufacturing optical equipment for hunting, bird watching, and other outdoor recreational sports. Vortex Optics holds the official license for the Audubon Binoculars and Stokes Birding Series lines of binoculars and spotting scopes. As of 2006, Vortex Optics began producing and distributing the Vortex line of binoculars, spotting scopes, riflescopes, and other optical equipment.

[edit] History

Vortex Optics began when the Hamilton family moved to Wisconsin in the mid-1980s to open a store selling supplies to people who enjoyed wildlife and the outdoors. From the beginning, owner – operator Dan Hamilton saw the need for supplying optics of good quality to his customers, and brought in popular brands of binoculars and spotting scopes. By listening to what outdoor enthusiasts were asking for in the way of unique features, the store developed a reputation for supplying wildlife watchers with rugged optics of good optical quality.

In 1999, Hamilton began developing officially-licensed binoculars and spotting scopes by Vortex Optics for the National Audubon Society (Audubon Binoculars), followed by a line of binoculars and spotting scopes for Don and Lillian Stokes (Stokes Birding Series). As of 2006, Vortex Optics entered the international market with a complete line of binoculars, spotting scopes and riflescopes under the Vortex brand name.
