Welcome!

Hello Vorak, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages. The notices and comments are needed to establish community consensus about the status of an article, and removing them is considered vandalism. If you oppose the deletion of an article, you may comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. Kusma (討論) 22:49, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] reconsider leaving?

I hope you'll consider not leaving Wikipedia, although I will understand if you do. It can be a large, confusing, chaotic place, and if you're not used to being involved in a site of this size, it can be easy to take offense.

I came here because of the discussion for deletion of the N.O.D. page, by way of introduction. I notice that you feel "Wikipedia is deleting more articles than it is creating", which is rather untrue; there's new articles being created all of the time on a wide variety of subjects. While the articles you have created/worked on are experiencing a rush of problems and criticisms, overall the project is growing. When you work very closely in one area, whether it's Pokemon, quantum physics, or Antidisestablishmentarianism, it's easy to develop tunnel-vision and the feeling of being persecuted when someone "intrudes" on a subject you know well. I personally have a couple of areas of focus (you can see them on my user page), but I also do a lot of generalized maintenance.

I'd encourage you to keep in mind, too, that Articles for Deletion is a consensus-based process, not a vote (although it's a rough consensus, due to the size of the project). People coming in from N.O.D. on request to "vote" keep are not necessarily going to be discounted, but they won't have the same strength of conviction as someone who cites sources, backs up their statements, and explains their arguments for keeping the page. I've got a request in to some ADFers right now to get a direct quote of what Skip Ellison says about N.O.D., so that may help.

Keep in mind that there are at least 5 days of discussion before the site may be deleted, and even if it is, it can be recreated in the future if/when the site grows in notability, outside verifiability, or other ways in which it suits the general target audience of Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please let me know how I can help. Again, I hope you'll stay. -- nae'blis (talk) 23:02, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
