Volodymyr (Володимир) is a Ukrainian male given name.
The name is direct descendant from the Old East Slavic Володимир (Volodimir) which is spelled identically in the Cyrillic alphabet but transliterated differently because of changes in the Ukrainian alphabet since medieval times. The meaning of the name is "possessor of the world, people". Volodia (Володя) is a short version of this name. The same Slavic sources also produced the Russian and Serbian variant Vladimir and the German Waldemar.
