Volkswagen Robust

The Robust Pick Up, which is under development by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, will release in 2009.[1]

The Volkswagen Robust Pick Up will come in a number of variations, single cab and double cab combined with either rear wheel drive or four wheel drive.

Volkswagen considers the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi Triton etc to be Robust Pick Up competitors.

Engines will consist of Common Rail Diesel engines, a 4 cylinder petrol engine and a V6 petrol option as well.[2]

Confirmed production sites are Hanover, Germany, a plant in South Africa (for right hand drive markets) and General Pacheco, Argentina for South American markets[3].

In the Australian Publication Transport Today it was reported that Phil Clark Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Director in Australia was trying to convince his German Bosses to add a Cab Chassis program to Project RPU.[4]

It has been rumoured VW may build either a Nissan Pathfinder 7 seater or a Toyota Hilux Surf competitor off of the RPU platform.

The name of such a vehicle is rumoured to be Namib. [5]

An artist rendering was released at the 2008 ExpoAgro in Argentina. [6]

A concept version of the Robust is to be shown at the 2008 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.[7]
