Volkach is a town in the district of Kitzingen in the Regierungsbezirk Unterfranken in Bavaria. The town was founded in 906 A.D. and celebrated its 1100th anniversary in 2006.
Volkach's main tourist attraction is its annual wine festival. Volkach's wine festival ("weinfest" in German) is the culminating festival for the entire Franken wine region - this means that all of the smaller towns hold their festivals first and select their wine princesses. At the Volkach wine festival a wine princess is selected to represent the entire Franken region - her picture even appears on the wine bottles for that year. The festival will be held this year from August 14-19, 2008 and is marking its 60th anniversary.
