Voletta Wallace

Voletta Wallace (February 3, 1953) is the mother of the late rapper and cultural icon The Notorious B.I.G.. She is the founder of the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation in his memory, and remains a well-known figure in hip-hop alongside the similar Afeni Shakur.

Born in Trelawny, Jamaica, she emigrated to New York City after receiving a plane ticket as an invitation from an ex-boss of hers at an employment agency. In New York she met her first love and the future father of her child, Selwyn. He left Wallace while pregnant for his family in London, England, and worked to improve her life. On May 21, 1972, she gave birth to an eight-pound baby, Christopher, the future The Notorious B.I.G. After surviving two fights of breast cancer and her son's death, she took over her son's estate and has started the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation to bring education in the inner city. She now lives in the house her son owned in New Jersey.
