[edit] Image:Godzilla movie.jpg
Do you have any source or copyright info on Image:Godzilla movie.jpg? DES 3 July 2005 17:02 (UTC)
Augh! Can't I load a single picture on this site without it becoming a copyright violation? I'm just trying to help! And as for your question, no! I don't! I found it on a Google search on this site. You'll notice I gave a link to it on its page so I wouldn't be bothered about it, and you can whine about copyright violations to whoever owns that site! You think I have found any of these pictures anywhere other than a random search? No! Talk to my man with the green and white stripes! --VolatileChemical 3 July 2005 17:26 (UTC)
- If you load an image as a result of "random search" it is almost automatically a probable copyright violation. Whem you load an image, you need to do the work of making sure that it is public domain, or that permission has been granted by the copyright owner that permits use on wikipedia, and including a tag indicating this. I will now have to chaek all the images you have loaded, and list all of them as probable copyright violations unless you tagged them with info indicating permission to reproduce them, or PD status, or a reson that the fit under Fair Use. I strongly suggest you read Wikipedia:Copyright before you upload any more images. DES 3 July 2005 20:49 (UTC)

I assume the same applies to Image:Nystockexchange.png: you found it on the site you listed on the image page, and have no info on its copyright status? Did ypu also trim off the copyright notice which is present on [1]? (Note, the procedure for dealing with questionable images dictates informing the person who uploaded them, so expect to see more questions like this.) DES 3 July 2005 21:05 (UTC)
Yes, I get it, they're all copyright violations. Can you quit sending me complaints about every single freakin' one? And I'm not actually reading nay of the messages you send me. So...have fun wasting your time writing them. --VolatileChemical 3 July 2005 21:09 (UTC)
[edit] More Images
As a courtesy to you, and because the standard wikipedia procedure says I should, i am letting you know about soem foruther images that you uploaded which i have listed as possible problems
I have listed the following as possubly unfree images on Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. None had indications of copyright permission, but did not have a clear source that claimed copyright.
- Image:Thumbsup.png
- Image:Onehoopyfrood.jpg
- Image:Bypass.jpg
- Image:The late dentarthurdent.jpg
- Image:Oranjeboom.gif
- Image:Tyrael.png
- Image:Hogwarts crest.jpg
- Image:Musée d'Orsay.png
I have listed the following as probable copyright violations on Wikipedia:Copyright problems. All were from source pages with a copyright notice, or some other clear indication of a copyright claim, and none had indications of copyright permission.
- Image:Eilean donan.jpg
- Image:Fordprefect.jpg
- Image:Experimentalfilm.png
- Image:Hinkypunk.jpg
- Image:Fawkes.jpg
- Image:Mac portable.png
You can do what you please about this information. I am informing you so that if you choose to visit any of the pages concerned and give any feedback, you can. If you don't choose to, fine.DES 4 July 2005 17:23 (UTC)
Then I choose the second option, because I have better things to do with my time than bother people about copyright violations and forget to captitalize the I's in my messages. But feel free to knock yourself out, DES. des. Learn to spellcheck. --vOLATILEcHEMICAL 5 July 2005 01:16 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Email on block of User:24.66.94.140
I recieved your email of August 28 regarding the block of the IP address 24.66.94.140. As you may already know, this is a shared IP address used by Shaw Communications. The prior client of this address went on a large vandalism spree last night which resulted in the IP being blocked for 24 hours by myself and another admin. This was necessary in order to minimize the damage caused by this vandal after he or she ignored several shorter blocks of 1-3 hours. Unfortunately since it appears that you ended up with this users IP after he or she signed off the block ended up carrying over to you.
Vandalism from shared IPs is a major problem on Wikipedia and there is much debate going on right now regarding how to deal with it. Current policy involves blocking shared IPs for short periods until the vandal gives up and moves on, or if we are contacted by the new owner of the IP. If this happens again in the future, one quick solution you might try would be to disconnect and reconnect if you are on dial-up. I have lifted the block on the IP for now. I apologize for the inconvenience, however I stress again that it was necessary at the time and you were not intentionally targeted. -Loren 00:40, 29 August 2005 (UTC)
I am fully aware that it wasn't intentional, but, as my motto goes, Haud nullus industria facina subsisto careo querela (Latin: No unintentionally bad deed goes uncomplained about). --VolatileChemical 02:53, 29 August 2005 (UTC)
