Talk:Volunteer vacation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Tone
The article sounds more like a dedicated volunteer vacation site, than an encyclopedia. Since I'm a coordinator at WikiProject Tourism, I've put it on the task board there. However, we're just starting off, and we have a lot of other work to do, so this isn't our top priority. I've added a tone notice, as to attract some attention, hopefully. Hopefully, we'll be able to get to it soon. Cool Bluetalk to me 14:02, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've had a go at it. Mainly meant lots of deletion. If this does not meet concerns, please restore tags and add more details here. Thanks. -- SiobhanHansa 19:06, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
The first sentence should be deleted. There are no studies that claim a direct positive impact of volunteer vacations. From a perspective of development theories it is rather a very questionable form of 'doing good'. I'll come back to this. -- J. Vreman, September 26, 2007
I've attempted another rewrite - a criticisms section had been added, which while well intended was also of an entirely inappropriate tone and copied (apparently with permission, though our requirements for that did not appear to have been completed fully) from a non-reliable source. We desperately need good sources for this article preferably tertiary summaries of research from respectable and trusted research institutions along with nameable positions from individual experts. Once we have that I expect the actual content will need changing somewhat to accurately reflect the state of expert opinion. Surely there are some journal articles that have been written by economists or international development experts? -- SiobhanHansa 16:29, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
