[edit] Satesclop

User:Satesclop is doing it again. Badagnani 17:37, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Capitalization of the alternative title

I see you have just changed the capitalization of Lo sposo deluso. This is pretty arcane stuff I know, but we have been following Grove which capitalizes the first word (normally an article) of the alternative title e.g. Così fan tuttle, ossia La scuola degli amanti. Ciao. -- Kleinzach 23:43, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cinderella Liao

I've spent the last several hours trying to find sources on Miss. Liao and there really is not much to go on. I'm thinking that this article should be deleted. I'm not all that impressed with her resume on her own website either. She hasn't performed with any major opera companies and although she has performed with several respectable orchestras, none of the orchestras she has performed with are what I would consider as being among the top orchestras in the world. In other words, she really isn't notable enough yet to deserve a page. What do you think?Nrswanson 00:55, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

I agree, it probably fails the notability criteria. The one source, apart from the subject's web site, is an interview she gave to promote one of her concerts, which does not count in establishing notability. I think it probably should be nominated for deletion, eventually. Then at least the editor who put it up will be more motivated to try to establish notability, improve the referencing, and remove the large amount of POV in the article. But I only put the notices up on the article and at the sole editor's talk page a few days ago. So I'd give him/her a few more days to improve the article. [edit] Sources for current singers

Hi. Hope you had a good holiday! I seem to remember that you made some suggestions for referencng post-Grove singers but I'm not sure where. We have a few singers with 'unreferenced' tags here and I was wondering whether you might have some ideas about processing them. No urgency! -- Kleinzach 03:49, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Had a wonderful holiday, thanks! The sources are now buried in the archives somewhere, but I've re-printed and expanded them in my sandbox. I've also mentioned it on the current Opera Project Talk Page in case others are interested. I'll have a periodic go at some of the unreferenced articles ones you listed, I'm currently working on Sly, which in addition to being unreferenced, needs a fair amount of wikification, e.g. this discussion. Best, Voceditenore 11:27, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your input on this. I've done some newspaper references for Thomas Hampson (baritone) - the first ones I've done - let me know if my format isn't right. Actually I'm wondering if we should have a set format to go on the project page in a sources/references section. -- Kleinzach 00:48, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
The format looks fine to me. I sometimes vacillate between putting the link on the article name and putting in on the publication name, rather than just a numbered link, e.g. here. I also tend to use the Harvard citation style, unless I'm in too much of a hurry to reverse the last and first names and put them in alphabetical order, e.g. here But as long as the info is there, it doesn't matter too much. For future articles, a set format for the project page might be a good idea, though. Since Porgy & Bess was a featured article, we could use the refs there as a model. Best, Voceditenore 12:41, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

There seem to be a lot of versions of the Harvard system. In (WP) Harvard referencing it gives this example:

This is closer to your style (Otto mesi) than Porgy and Bess. Anyway I've had another go at the references for Thomas Hampson (baritone). -- Kleinzach 13:36, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Verifying Marina Prior

While I was working on Marina Prior I noticed that you were working on it, too.

I rewrote the article substantially and included your references and your referencing style. It's at User:Michael Bednarek/Marina Prior. I'm not sure how to proceed from here. If you are happy with my version, let me know and I copy it across. Or you may want to. Michael Bednarek 14:20, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Michael, I'm not really planning to work on it. I just added some references so we could take off the 'refs needed' banner and while I was at it, I fixed the tenses. Your new version looks excellent! I'd say to just go ahead and copy it over to the article. Best, Voceditenore 17:44, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Singer of the Month?

I've been wondering about whether we should have a 'Singer of the Month'? 'Composer of the Month' has been a good engine for driving the Opera Project forward, but it's meant that we've probably concentrated too much on the individual opera articles. 'Singer of the Month' might redress the balance a bit. What do you think? -- Kleinzach 06:22, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I think it would be a very good idea to redress the balance and something for you to definitely bring up on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Opera page. Whenever I do an article on an individual opera, I'm amazed by how many of the role creators in it, many of them very prominent, either have red links or stubs, e.g. Giuditta Pasta, Pauline Viardot. There are also a lot of notable 20th C singers who have poor articles ('fan style' or PR stuff), Jessye Norman. Others are rather poorly referenced or not referenced at all. Take a look at Beniamino Gigli, Magda Olivero, Elisabeth Söderström, Montserrat Caballé. Even the Caruso article could use considerable improvement. Best, Voceditenore 13:44, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes indeed, I agree entirely. Would you be willing to take on 'chairing' 'Singer(s) of the Month', i.e. guiding people towards making a viable choice each month, advising on standards to aim for etc? (I would like to reduce my involvement in the project rather than increase it.) I'm happy to help introduce it, set up boxes or whatever, but once it's launched I'd prefer it if you could shepherd it. Thanks. -- Kleinzach 01:23, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm. I guess I could 'shepherd' it, if the project members were in favour of having a Singer(s) of the month section. Hopefully, it won't be too time-consuming. Best, Voceditenore 13:46, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I was expecting a 'hmmm'. Look at it this way, if we share the initiatives, the admin, the chores or whatever if makes for a more harmonious atmosphere. (Recently I've been doing too much, which makes me a target for silly, time-consuming challenges/reverts.) If 'Singer of the Month' is handled well (clear directions, group dynamics, decision making etc.) new people will be drawn in and you can take a back seat (best case scenario!).
Anyway, assuming your answer is still yes, what help do you want from me (if any?) -- Kleinzach 02:31, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
I'll have a think. I'd like to start it after September 20th if that's OK. I'll be 'away from my desk' (and blessedly computerless) from the 14th-19th. Best, Voceditenore 16:09, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Sure. Absolutely no hurry. -- Kleinzach 23:23, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, perhaps you could start the discussion on the Opera Talk page to see if the members think it's worthwhile doing and how. Hopefully, I'll even get a collaborator. If there's a consensus to have a Singer of the Month, I'd need help on what to do with those box thingies on the OP page and the talk page (like the ones for Composer of the Month). Best, Voceditenore 15:46, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Good. I think I'll do a draft and show you before putting it on the talk page. Most of the main existing members are rep-oriented but the idea would be to use Singer of the Month to broaden out the project and atttract in people who are now just on the periphery, while improving the standard of the singer articles. -- Kleinzach 22:31, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

How about this?:

Some of us have been talking about starting a new feature called 'Singer of the Month', similar to 'Composer of the Month'. For the past couple of years we have concentrated on coverage of opera composers and operas. While most articles remain relatively short we have now developed a framework for what will eventually be (in about 5 years!) the most substantial source for opera in the English language.

Perhaps now is the time to look at the articles on singers and try to bring them up to the same standard as the opera composers and operas? Perhaps having a regular 'Singer of the Month' will help do this, while attracting new members to the project?

Any comments, opinions about how this would be managed? Would 'Singer of the Month' concentrate on improving the quality of the articles on the most famous singers? Or be used to create new articles on neglected ones? How should it be organized? Is anyone willing to start the necessary discussions and shepherd the thing along? -- Kleinzach 23:02, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Looks fine to me. Best, Voceditenore 08:37, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
I've posted it to the project discussion page. -- Kleinzach 03:52, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wu Pak Chiu

No problem. I have reason why I support Wu Pak Chiu article. I live in Malaysia, it is damn hard to find people who love or even know opera. Placido Domingo is like an alien name in here (old and young) but most educated old people know who Wu Pak Chiu is. I was told by my dad that he has a great voice but his face makes it hard for him to get many main roles because most of opera “storylines” focus on European. It may not be an issue today but in those days, people are much particular about “color”. My dad still keeps his album but can’t play it anymore because we do not have the player – it’s a big black record. - Jay 11:20, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Move tab

Hi, if you use the 'move' tab, you won't need a link back to the original article. It moves the history along with the page. -- But|seriously|folks  07:14, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Move stud tab

Hello, Did you perhaps add a stud tab to the article on Raymonde Delaunois? I take the liberty to move it, because I think this is a rather comprehensive article that gives the relevant information. Graves gives much less. I hope you agree. Best regards, Andries1204 13:37, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I think you are confusing 'move tab' with 'stub tag'. Yes, I added the stub tag ({{opera-singer-stub}}). I have no objections to removing it. Best, Voceditenore 13:50, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Renewed Vandalism on Plácido Domingo

I am aware of that. I checked all other languages yesterday, seems like this guy only changed the year in English Wiki. I will keep an eye on the article. If it happens for the 3rd times, I will ask the admin to lock the article from anon users again - Jay (talk) 13:13, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sub-topic headings

Abstruse point but sub-topic headings don't get indexed by HBC, i.e. in this case 'Can someone test "The Opera Critic" for me?' will appear in the index rather than the more important 'Online resources . . '. I've actually changed another example. (Tell me if I am getting over-involved in details!) Best. --Kleinzach (talk) 09:36, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:Opera

I have just added "DYK" section - Jay (talk) 03:28, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Jay! I'll try to add some content later today. You did a great job. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:07, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Noelle Brooks

Hi Voceditenore. Just letting you know an administrator signed off on the debate on this page as delete but forgot to actually delete the article.Nrswanson (talk) 01:20, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I've just had the same message! --Kleinzach (talk) 03:04, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] John Brown (opera singer)

I wonder if you still think this is worth saving? If not . . . .--Kleinzach (talk) 03:04, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

I tried to find more stuff, but was unsuccessful. The role creation is in a pretty minor 35 minute children's opera, performed in schools and community centers. There are a few mentions of it here and there in local papers, but no real mention of him except as a member of the cast. I'd say to PROD and notify the article's creators. Perhaps they can provide more. If not, well... Best, Voceditenore (talk) 06:24, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
OK. I've gone ahead with this now. --Kleinzach (talk) 07:01, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Capitalisation

You can add The Oxford Illustrated History of Opera to your list if you like. It uses La bohème. Cheers. --Folantin (talk) 07:13, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Juan Diego Flórez

Happy to help out! Esrever (klaT) 21:37, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] I support your removal of Paul Potts from the Nessun dorma article...

...and have noted that on the article's Talk page. Viva-Verdi (talk) 20:57, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
