[edit] History
Vita-Mix traces it roots back to the 1920s, when the founder, W.G. Barnard, was a salesman. In 1937 Barnard introduced the world's first modern blender to his line of goods. When television became in widespread in 1949, Barnard's son, Bill Barnard, quickly recognized the value that the TV would have on advertising. Bill booked 30 minutes on WEWS-TV, and the first direct-response commercial was created. In 1955 Bill and his spouse Ruth took over operations of Vita-Mix. Bill's son Grover joined the company in 1964, the same year they officially changed their name to Vita-Mix Corporation. When the company went on to inrtoduce the so-called "Kitchen Center" in 1969, followed by the Vita-Mix 3600, and even later the 4000. These would be revoutionary products in blender history. In the early 80s, they expanded their business to Canada. In 1986 they were asked to build their first commercial food service only product, now called the Mix'n Machine. They followed this up with the 2-speed Drink Machine in 1992. The Drink Machine was successful with Chi-Chi's and another prouct, Time Blender, released in 1995 was bought primarily by Starbucks coffee. Their 1997 Blending Station was greatly used by Baskin-Robbins. Vita-Mix's two most recent products are the Vita Prep and the Touch and Go Blending Station.
