[edit] Visual Effects Art Director ( VFX Art Director)

Art Direction for visual effects generally involves the creative ability to conceptualize and design a visual effects shot while working closely with the VFX Supervisor to achieve it. It is probably a less technical more creative role that falls somewhere between VFX supervisor and Film Director.

In the context of an art director as someone entrusted with the responsibility for making creative and aesthetical choices, a VFX Art Director makes decisions regarding look, design, and style in the context of visual effects. They are most likely well versed in the technical process to which such effects shots are created but possess a more creative eye and occupy a somewhat less technical role.

Grant Freckelton of Animal Logic served as VFX Art Director on the Zack Snyder directed feature film 300. His role included conceptualizing VFX shots, colloaborating with the Director to develop the overall look of the film and working with the various visual effects vendors to bring all the shots together under one visual style.
