[edit] Hangeul
Hi,
Does hangeul have a long /aː/ in it in Korean? Your edit got lost in the subsequent page blanking, but I wanted to be sure you didn't mean long /ɑː/ in English. kwami (talk) 06:21, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, yes it does have a long 아ː (/aː/)sound in Korean, according to various dictionaries. It's worth noting that vowel length in itself is no longer distinctive in mainstream modern Korean, but is still retained in dictionary representations (and still exercises an indirect effect on features such as word stress and vowel quality). -- Visviva (talk) 11:27, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mazandarani language
Sir,
I am writing to request unprotection of the Mazandarani language page until more suitable, consensus language is drafted. As it stands now, a reader of the entry may get the false impression that the dialect of the Persian language spoken in Mazandaran Province (literally 20 miles from Tehran) is "mutually unintelligible" with the Persian language of which it is a part. Thank you for your consideration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.16.40.213 (talk) 03:02, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hello. The page was protected due to edit warring. If the editors can come to a consensus on the issue, I will be happy to unprotect. Please discuss your proposed changes on the talk page. You may also wish to read Wikipedia:Dispute resolution, if you believe the differences are irreconcilable. -- Visviva (talk) 08:47, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Template:Mammal row
A tag has been placed on Template:Mammal row requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

[edit] Shimer College
Hi Visviva! Thanks for the warm welcome ... sorry about the months-long delay in replying. Yes, I am both a fellow Shimerian (a term that seems only recently to have come into vogue - I think in the '90s we were just "Shimer students" or my own preferred neologism: "Shimerite") and an interested party in general.
Thank you for the helpful links - I am just wrapping things up at Shimes after a lengthy hiatus, and have been a little more occupied with thesis-related matters and with grad school considerations than I had anticipated. Hopefully I can eventually contribute more than the occasional minor spiff-up here or there.
I was actually thinking of embarking on a major rewrite of the Shimer page, which seems to be lacking depth in its coverage of our rather interesting history. You don't happen to know offhand whether or not recruiting other current students to engage in a well-coordinated full rewrite of the Shimer College page would violate any of Wikipedia's ethics policies, do you? We aren't faculty, or marketers - but neither are we disinterested parties. Given the recent move, there's been renewed interest in opening up some dusty old archives - to which current students would have unique access - but I seem to remember numerous dust-ups involving political staffers cleaning up this or that figure's page, or corporate goons sent online to spit-shine a nascent Enron's image. This seems different, though.
What do you think?
Thanks in advance,

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Mbc logo.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Mbc logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NotifyBot (talk) 13:01, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

- A bunch of anonymous ips are removing links to the wiki
- I and another admin from the wiki feel this to be unjust but aren't comfortable with just reverting the links considering the possible conflict of interest.

Your saying is still based on your firm belief that I'm the sock of Appleby, so I would certainly know all of what you know. So do I have to be happy with your comment because you're not blocking me?????? You're so out of line. I'm highly allergic to see or use any vulgar language, but WTF? Besides, I don't care about your excuse or explanation as to why you're almost quitting your editing here. That is your business, not mine. - Reckless? Don't think I've ever been called that before. Anyway, I'm not the one who -- according to your explanation -- decided to name his account after a notorious troll, but now gets upset when people assume there's a connection.
- If you look again at the diff which you linked above, you'll see that my original, off-hand comment was a joke, arising from the fact that you had just accused two users from Galbijim of being the same person. I have apologized repeatedly for any offense which my attempt at good humor caused to you. I might note that is more than you have done in that conversation. At any rate, it seems that my efforts at civility have been wasted. Cheers, -- Visviva (talk) 11:47, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- WP:SPADE. Your "joke" was not a "good" joke but an intended lynch to compare my so-called accusation of them. However, you do not even realize that i was also accused by the people, one of which was disruptive on a mentioned article. The second time convassing at the talk page (I don't think the site is so warranted that everyone has to protect the removal by the anon in question) is also problematic. Besides, you're not either 데이빛 or Grobbz. Your increased assumptions are nothing but personal attacks. Your explanation of your mistrust on people is really none of my business. I happen to have the similar name with the banned user, but If I'm as disruptive or too similar with the banned editor, I would not even have a chance to talk with you here. Then your judgment is purely responsible for yourself. Don't worry, your civility is never wasted, but your bad faith is overused. Well, then I apologize that I had assumed that you're the notorious Hyolee2 on Korean Wikipedia for his editing mainly geographical info, especially Busan. --Appletrees (talk) 12:30, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
