Virginia (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Virginia" is a song written by Tennesseans Dixie and Tom T. Hall. It is currently under review to possibly become the official state song of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The arrangement that plays on the Halls' website is sung by Stacey York.
She's felt sorrow, seen the bloodshed
On her page in history
Now Virginia flies Old Glory
Helps our nation live in peace
Hearts of love and hands of kindness
Without fear we'll stand and fight
For our homeland, for Virginia
Give our lives for what is right
CHORUS
Old Dominion, oh Virginia
We are one society
I am proud I'm from Virginia
And Virginia's part of me
Praise our fathers, proud Virginians
Gone with time yet still today
Diplomatic Southern graces
Chase the clouds of war away
We are blessed it was Virginia
Where we left our mothers womb
May the sweet soil of Virginia
Wrap around us in the tomb
CHORUS
For the music of the people
Plainly sung with honesty
All the world thanks our Virginia
Maybelle, Sara and A.P.
And Virginia is for lovers
Love is stronger waged than war
So thus always unto tyrants
Do not cross Virginia shore
CHORUS
TAG
and Virginia's part of me
