Use of "Dr." and "Ph.D."
Hi Viriditas. I've responded on the DD talk page to both Humus sapiens and your comments. Please consider reverting to his latest version (with the POV tag) so that editors replying to the RfC understand what the issue is. I'm not trying to push an agenda here, I'm only trying to get clarification on the Dr./Ph.D issue. Monkeyman 22:57, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- I went ahead and removed the RfC. I'll resubmit this particular question with a less polarizing figure as an example. If you know if/where this particular issue is addressed in wikipedia style policy, please let me know. (I've looked but couldn't find it anywhere.) Monkeyman 23:10, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
cannabis cats
hi viriditas,
a week or so ago i created category:Cannabis legal reform, and as there's some overlap there with the activists cat you've been filling out, i figured i'd mention it. perhaps activists should be a sub-cat of legal reform?
--Heah talk 03:55, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- actually my first thought was to create an activists category, but since there were plenty of organizations and other stuff i went for the more general. So i have no desire at all for it to not exist, just wanted to touch base before I changed anything. I'll go through it tomorrow and decat people from legal reform and whatnot. cheers --Heah talk 07:39, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
My Mistake
Sorry, I shouldn't have tagged it as speedy. I was confused with another edit window I had open at the same time. I mean to merge it with owl, but then I noticed that you had added it to category:Owls so that became somewhat irrelevant. Sorry about that. Bobby1011 06:14, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Project Watchlist Bot
I'm finally getting around to replying to your request for a bot to update the project watchlist. I didn't know anything about bots at the time. So, I went and learned. But then there was a wikipedia bug. Now, I've written a bot, and am waiting for approval to run it. Assuming it gets approved, I'll use it to update the WikiProject Hawaii watchlist every few days (which may be unnecessary for WP:Hawaii, but the Numismatics project is changing very rapidly). Thanks for the suggestion -- it's led me on a very interesting journey. Ingrid 00:11, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Category:Trees of Minnesota
Hi Viriditas - isn't this ridiculous over-categorisation? Will there be a similar cat for every state and province in North America? Consider the implications for a widespread species, which might thus end up in 60 or more categories and have a longer list of categories than there is text about it - MPF 12:20, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
- "I don't see any "over-categorisation" at this time" - means you've not looked at the implications! Do you propose to add every species of plant that occurs in every state or province to each such category? Most such areas have a flora 2,000-5,000 vascular plant species, and most of these species have distributions that cover several states or provinces. I can see there might be some value in continent-wide, or possibly national flora categories, but not by individual states etc. Also have you considered the definition of a 'tree'? - it isn't a very useful criterion as there is no real distinction between a tree and a shrub ('woody plant' might be better). - MPF 12:37, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks; though I see problems ahead with plants like e.g. Manitoba Maple, native in 5 Canadian provinces, 46 US states, and 3 Mexican states; if each had its own 'Category:Trees of X', that's 54 categories at the bottom of its page, on top of what it already has. Is that a realistic option? California is a bit of a special case, as its flora is to a large extent different from most of the rest of the US (shared a bit with OR, WA, NV, AZ, and Baja Calif.), but there's nothing in MN that doesn't also occur in one or more adjoining areas, as the eastern N American flora is uniform over larger regions than states - MPF 15:15, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Regarding adminship
Hi, actually the issues with SlimVirgin and Anonymous editor were from the past - about 4 months back - and I am amazed that they still hold a grudge against me. The fact remains that since that period there has hardly been any case of revert wars etc. or me behaving in any unruly fashion. Infact I've never even had issues or interactions with these people since then. But, some have chosen to judge me only from that period. Idleguy 13:51, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
New Pro-cannabis userbox
If you would like to have this on your userpage, just add {{User:Disavian/Userboxes/pro-cannabis}} to your userpage, and the box at right will appear on it. Also, if used in your user space, the page will be listed on Category:Pro-cannabis Wikipedians. If you would like to share it with someone else, type {{User:Disavian/Userboxes/pro-cannabis|stamp|right}}
Also, consider weighing in on the Wikipedia:Userbox policy poll.
Stand up and be counted while you still can,
StrangerInParadise 20:38, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Fair enough. I should point out, I see this box as a matter of affirming principle (bigotry and oppression are wrong), rather than pushing a political agenda (legalize it!). This is more in the sensibility of anti-racism userboxen.
I am pushing the wikipolitical agenda that things such as this should be allowed to exist, which is the main reason I created it now. I have found the experiment of disseminating via talk pages problematic, for example the language in the note above should be If you like..., and generally be less presumptuous. This was clumsy of me. Note that, prior to this anti-userboxen nonsense, I didn't have even a userpage, though I confess to being pleased with my new one (check it out).
Under different circumstances, I would simply have left it at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Beliefs, and let time take its course. A rogue admin has already tried to tear things up already and delete Category:Pro-cannabis Wikipedians, and the template's links to it.
Thanks all the same for your help over time,

cannabis cats
sure. a category for groups (eg marijuana legalization parties) would probably be helpful too. I really was quite surprised a few weeks ago when i found that there was only Category:Cannabis to cover all of this stuff, that apparently no one had started carving out relevant subcats for legal stuff . . . and i only even noticed that while fixing up Category:Psychedelic advocates and proponents . . . --He:ah? 21:20, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Viriditas.
I haven't wrote to You in a long time, but I want to say I've been tracking Your activity and You've amassed well over 20,000 edits. Thought I might never be worthy Myself, I've been thinking of nomination You for RfA. What do You think -- Eddie, Friday March 10, 2006 at 12:28
- Thanks for the offer, but I don't need the admin tools right now. I hope everything is going well for you. —Viriditas | Talk 12:30, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I won't nominate You. But know that if You ran the RfA, You'd receive lot of support. -- Eddie, Friday March 10, 2006 at 12:32
Tawkerbot2
It is certainly possible to run this for any language. You will need a place to host the bot though, unless you can work something out with Tawker. He can certainly fill you in on the details of what you would need to get it running. Regards joshbuddytalk 23:52, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- Ok cool. If you need any features or there is something you'd like to pick up with it please ask. I'm going to put it in a repository somewhere, so that we can all keep up-to-date on the same code base. joshbuddytalk 23:56, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'm running Tawkerbot2 on a surplus Intel Pentium II 300mhz processor, 512MB of PC2300 and a 6 GB HDD running Ubuntu Breezy, oh and a 10mbit network connection. It doesn't require much, network connectivity is the biggest thing. Sorry about the slow reply, I didn't notice this post for a while -- Tawker 17:28, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Aloha
Someone just suggested the category idea to me recently. I'm not sure what I would use it for. Plus, for numismatics, we have something like 1500 articles, and I'm not sure that that's recommended since categories update dynamically (not that I really know anything about that, but I just wouldn't want to do it without a good reason). Please help
As a new wikipedian, I request your sage help in One child policy. I have reverted that page once after I witnessed what I feel is vandalism and POV. The user has come back with the same content, plus additional opinions. Should I continue reverting, or is there some better way to handle this?
- Thanks for your help, and I want to again apologize for editing the Peak Oil references without first fully recognizing their sourcing. Lokiloki 16:42, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Dubious
Why do you remove my changes? Those dubious claims have been there for a few days with no citations. As well, ONE of them is redundant... there are two sentences which are virtually identical. I will also point out that the {{dubious}} link claims I can remove dubious facts immediately... I did not do that, but am doing it now... these are inflammatory, uncited claims that should not be there without citations. Lokiloki 09:22, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Blocking a user
Can you tell me the process for filing a complaint against another user, blocking them from editing, or banning them? I am tired of dealing, day after day, with a POV pusher who is constantly denying, for example, that the BBC is a neutral source, is constantly challenging every statistic or sentence I include, and who states my images are propaganda yet puts up equally provacative images. It's just tiresome, juvenile, and unconstructive. Lokiloki 11:13, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Systemetic left wing bias
I'm not saying that there is, and I don't think there is. I was saying that to show that people with the opposite POV as Loki are saying it. I was hoping that he would see that his complaint about systemetic right wing and pro israel bias looks kinda silly when you see both sides insisting opposite bias.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 03:55, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
My intention wasn't to "get back at him" or anything I just hoped it might help if he saw that people complain about the opposite thing sometimes.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 04:02, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
The Handover
What's the plan for the handover to the new topics? Will their be fireworks? Will the old article still claim authority? Can it be convinved to retire gracefully? Lokiloki 17:32, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the problem is that the articles are becoming pretty discordant, as Humus and I are editing the temp article, and other people are editing the main article. I think it makes sense to move over now, or not at all. Lokiloki 18:32, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Re: Mancow
Honestly, I can't find anything either way in WP:NAME right now, but it gives no examples of using a nickname of a real person as an article, and I can't imagine that Mancow is a proper title here. I have brought it up on Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions where hopefully something more definitive will come up. --W.marsh 23:18, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's an interesting point. Obviously we don't title articles about Prince, Madonna, etc. by their full real names as far as I know. If this is a similar case, then perhaps moving back would be a good idea, I must confess I've never heard of Mancow outside of this Wikipedia article. --W.marsh 23:23, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
removal of PKD quotation
I may be a bit(?) ignorant but why are you removing the quotation? Because you dont think its relevant? (I do-and we should submit it to the editorship out there)Because you can? You like behaving without achieving consenus? What gives? Lentisco 04:28, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Silky Sullivan
I can't imagine why you thought it a good idea to put a fan's poem under a picture, or why you removed a quote, or why you changed the name of a heading. If you've a great reason for any of these changes, I'd like to hear about them. Seems to me after making these changes, you could have left a note explaining your intent. Or was it just a drive-by fiddle? Ki Longfellow 15:59, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
I see you've been back making sweeping changes. Am I allowed some sort of discussion? I'd really appreciate it. I invite you to my place for a chat. 209.198.69.28 22:08, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
The recent images of Silky were given me by his last owner who permitted me to use them however I wished. One is simply a scan of an old calender page, and the other is a sketch given away on Silky Sullivan days, commissioned by his owner. If you feel that the layout is more in keeping with wikipedia, then I bow to your superior knowledge of such things. My instinctive feeling is that a picture facing right should be placed on the left side of the page, and vice versa. This is keep the eye on the article rather than taking it away. I can't imagine wikipedia having a rule for placing them the other way, but if it does, it does. Ki Longfellow 22:17, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
But I do thank you for adding Silky to births and deaths pages...making him a "person." Ki Longfellow 22:30, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
I would appreciate your help. There's always someone wandering around and that someone always has yet another wikipedia "rule" which often turns out to be personal taste. It's actually quite hard to get a real handle on all this without becoming totally immersed. Help, though perhaps needed, is often conflicting. Especially about images. These last images of Silky were not taken from the internet but were gifts to me by their owner who actually does own them. These, I thought, would be fine. It's a virtual impossibilty to choose which tag to award them unless one is a copyright lawyer. I will be turning the images around again. Pointing them in. I also see you've renamed my sections. "History" is nice and dry and so encyclopediac, but it's not accurate. Heavens, what a falafel. Ki Longfellow 14:00, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
