Vipin Gopal

Dr. Vipin Gopal, (February 9, 1971) is an inventor, business innovator and community activist. Born at Calicut (Kozhikode), Kerala, India, he is a leading authority in business applications of advanced analytics, optimization and control technologies, and has many publications and patents in these areas.

Dr. Gopal created the first webpages on Kerala and Malayalam in 1993, and adapted the God's Own Country slogan to create the phrase Kerala- God's Own Country which first appeared in those webpages. He has also been an active leader in the Indian-American community.

Vipin Gopal completed his early education at St. Joseph's Boys' High School and Malabar Christian College. As a High School student, he was recognized by the National Talent Search Scholarship. He was also a rank-holder in both the Kerala State Engineering Entrance Examination and Pre-Degree Examination, a unique feat at that time. He obtained his B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA, both in Chemical Engineering.

Dr. Gopal started his professional career with the Corporate Research Center of Honeywell International at Minneapolis, USA. He has since held leadership positions at the Corporate Research Center of United Technologies Corporation and is currently with CIGNA Healthcare.

Though trained in Chemical Engineering, his contributions have spanned a broad variety of areas including energy systems, aerospace, computing and communications, and holds patents in these areas [1], [2]. His research has been published in journals including SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, AIChE Journal, IEEE Computer, Computers and Chemical Engineeringand AIAA Journal on Guidance, Control and Dynamics. He was an Associate Editor of the journal IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology. He has held senior positions in the professional organizations American Institute of Chemical Engineers and IEEE.

He has been involved in the Indian-American community activities for more than a decade, and was the President of India Association of Minnesota in 2001.
