VIPnet is the first private mobile network operator in Croatia. It has been operating a GSM network since 1999.
Since its arrival, VIPnet has broken the monopoly of CRONET (since renamed to T-Mobile Hrvatska, and owned by Hrvatski Telekom) and introduced many new services unknown before - SMS, prepaid and others. At that time the penetration rate in Croatia was just 4.6%, and by the 2008 it reached 104%.
Today VIPnet is still best known for its mobile network. It is a 900 MHz GSM and 2100 Mhz 3G (WCDMA) network which supports GPRS, MMS, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA technologies. They were the first to introduce a number of these technologies to the Croatian market and remain a technological leader in the field.
VIPnet's network code is 219 (CC) 10 (NC). It is the Vodafone partner in Croatia. In 2006 they obtained their WiMAX and fixed telephone network licenses.
VIPnet is owned by the mobilkom austria group, composed of Mobilkom Austria, Vipnet, Si.mobil, Vip mobile, VIP Operator, Mobilkom Liechtenstein and Mobiltel.
