Violent Delight
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Violent Delight were a punk/metal band from St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, consising of Rodney Henderson (born December 8, 1988 (vocals), Tom Steenvoorden (guitar), Ben Macrow (bass) and Ken Hayakawa (drums).
[edit] Career
Despite their youth (Henderson and Steenvoorden were both sixteen at the time) they were signed to Warner Bros. Records UK in 2002.
Their first single, "Secret Smile", was produced by Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones and gained rotation on Kerrang! television and P-Rock, but performed dismally in the charts. Their next music video received better financial backing and was shot in the U.S. This single "I Wish I Was a Girl", reached #25 in the UK Singles Chart and again gained rotation on alternative music satellite channels. Their third single "All You Ever Do" also entered the UK chart at number 38. "Transmission" was a fourth video release from them.
Their first album, Transmission was finally released in late 2003 to mostly unfavourable reviews. This was especially apparent in Kerrang! magazine who had initially supported the young band, and included them on some of their compilation albums.
In November 2003, Steenvoorden left the band citing creative differences and despite vowing to continue, the band has since disappeared into obscurity with their once active site forum closing down. It is now assumed they have broken up, although no official statements have been made.
In mid 2005, SuzyHope was created with Henderson and Hayakawa. Whilst Macrow and Vex Red guitarist Nick Goulding, created their new band, Selladore, during the summer of 2003. Steenvoorden returned to school to study law.
Violent Delight performed one last farewell gig on 10 November 2006, to a sell-out crowd at the Camden Barfly, London. Since then there has been rumours of the band getting together again. Violent Delight got back together in 2007, after their "farewell" gig
