Viola Reggio Calabria

Nuovo Basket Viola Reggio Calabria is an Italian professional basketball team from Reggio Calabria that has been established in 1998 and is currently defunct. It has gone bankrupt after the 2006/07 season, in which it played on the second highest level of Italian basketball - Serie A2. It got relegated from Serie A in 2005/06 season. It is considered a successor to Viola Reggio Calabria team that played in Serie A in the 1980s and 1990s. Their best result was 6th place in the 1992/93 season.
During history, due to sponsorship deals, the team has been known as Banco Popolare Reggio Calabria (1983-1984), Opel Reggio Calabria (1985-1986), Standa Reggio Calabria (1987-1989), Panasonic Reggio Calabria (1990-1993), Pfizer Reggio Calabria (1993-1995), Tris Reggio Calabria (2003-2004), Eurofiditalia Reggio Calabria (2004-2005).[1]
