From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Viodentia is a pseudonym used by the creator of FairUse4WM, a program that breaks copy protection technology used by popular music download sites such as Rhapsody, Yahoo! Music, and Napster.[1]
According to an interview published by weblog Engadget, Viodentia does not live in the United States of America.
[edit] Lawsuit
Microsoft filed a federal lawsuit against a John Doe AKA "Viodentia", in the hope identifying the person. Viodentia's alleged defense, published online, was:
- "FairUse4WM has been my own creation, and has never involved Microsoft source code," the developer wrote. "I link with Microsoft's static libraries provided with the compiler and various platform SDK (software development kit) files."[citation needed]
Microsoft had said that they expected to track down Viodentia by January 24th, 2007.[2] Currently, however, Viodentia has not been identified, and Microsoft has dropped the lawsuit without prejudice.
