Very specialised I know, but surely this makes the userbox even more special.

[edit] References
I think this article is on its way to becoming a good article. However it seems to lack any references relating to the actual piece itself and currently reads like unverified original research.
This really is not the case given the popularity of this piece and how much literature there is on this piece out there. If we can get a few more references for the piece, I feel this may be ready for peer review and potentially GA nomination. Centy 01:50, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- The Steinberg book has a ton of stuff in it. David was the concertmaster of the Gewandhaus, the letter to David saying "I would like to write a violin concerto for you for next winter. There's one in E minor in my head, and its opening won't leave me in peace." David's reply. Mendelssohn getting distracted by other works and returning with revisions six years later leading to the eventual premiere. I'm not feeling very literarily coherent at the moment, but if you want to incorporate that famous anecdote, I'll add the Steinberg reference. DavidRF 03:01, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- That is the sort of stuff I was thinking about. I too know about that anecdote and it seems that would be perfect for this article. We can incorporate this into some sort of history section. The only thing I think this article really needs before I think it would qualify for GA status is if we can find some references to the actual form and structure of the actual piece. To me it seems strange that not a single article on a piece of classical music (non-opera) has garnered even GA status. Once we have a few more inline references, we can maybe add a section on notable recordings and the history of the concerto after its composition.

- Also, I'll probably add the orchestration details sometime today. Centy 13:12, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Conflicting Orchestrations
Does anyone know what the original orchestration for the concerto is and have a reference to back it up. I have uploaded the orchestration given in a recent set of concert notes I obtained. However my miniature score seems to have 2 trombones also orchestrated which seems a little curious. Centy 00:46, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- The orchestration listed by Steinberg matches the one currently in the article (no trombones).DavidRF 16:11, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Good Article
This needs to go through a copy edit before it can achieve GA status. I have started, but more work is necessary. Also, more of the scholarly literature should be cited. Eusebeus 22:48, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- It would be great if you could spend a few minutes copy-editting. I'll try and find more cititations for the scholarly literature. Centy 00:27, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
