[edit] Roman numerals

I am not familiar with Roman numerals (XII) being used to represent centuries. Is this a known convention or should it be changed to standard Arabic (12th)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.41.10.26 (talk) 11:41, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

It's a style that's used quite a lot in historical circles - and Italians in particular are quite keen on it which is why you see it a lot in en.wiki articles about Italy. But the Wikipedia house style is to use Arabic - see WP:DATES#Longer periods FlagSteward (talk) 13:09, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
