[edit] questions
Thank you very much for your contributions, but in the future, could you please sign your messages with four tildes?--BillFlis 00:29, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
If anyone has a good pic of Papale when he was playing please put it up there. I could not find one and don't want Marky Mark to be the only pic there. Thanks--Looper5920 14:46, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Oldest rookie
Papale's own website (see External links) says he was the oldest NFL rookie, period. People keep adding the qualifier "without college experience" or some such. Do you have a source for this?--BillFlis 11:35, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- From all of the research I did when I created the page I remember it saying that he was the oldest non-kicker rookie in NFL history. I don't know what would be the best way to verify either.--Looper5920 12:02, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- I checked the History, and two different people added that qualifier. One, AnonTech, added it immediately after I removed it with the comment that Papale's own web site says so. AnonTech's other edits look pretty good tho, so I'm reluctant to take it out again. I did remove the redundant mention of his old-rookieness however.--BillFlis 12:12, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Is there anyway to engage elsewhere? Quick query to NFL Films or Cooperstown. Might be worth itnow that the movie is coming out. What do you think?--Looper5920 12:20, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, the Eagles website ("Where are they now?" feature) adds that qualifier, tho rather weakly. However, Googling "NFL oldest rookie" gives me numerous mentions of Papale without that qualifier (including Disney's site), and a few mentions of Australian punter Ben Graham, 31yo when he started with the Jets.--BillFlis 12:51, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- I think Ben Graham is the qualifier for kickers so it should stay. The other stuff "w/out college experience", is unsubstantiated at this point until someone can show some proof.--Looper5920 12:54, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Michael Lewis, currently on the New Orleans Saints was also a 30 year old rookie with no college experience. He also went on to make the Pro-Bowl in his second year in the league. Someone may have to break down the birthdays to determine who was older.
- His Database Football entry says he was 29 (born Nov. 14, 1971) at the start of the 2001 season, in which he played 8 games. It would seem he had to play at least a few of those games before his 30th birthday. That is, he turned 30 during his rookie season, so calling him a 30yo rookie is not incorrect, but it seems he played his first NFL game at a younger age (still 29) than did Papale.--BillFlis 19:14, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] See also?
Jim Murray is already mentioned and linked to within the article, so I don't think we really need this. The Philly Portal is appropriate, but that can be dropped anywhere, right?--BillFlis 12:12, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry on the extra Jimmy Murray. The portal should bee in the see also section per the MoS so if yo have something else to add to the section then by all means do so. Sorry about that, I'll take him out--Looper5920 12:20, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Can we get a picture of the real Papale?
And not settle for the one of Wahlberg?
