Vilyuysk

Vilyuysk (Russian: Вилю́йск) is a town in the Sakha Republic, Russia, located some 600 km from Yakutsk on the Vilyuy River (left tributary of the Lena) at . Population: 9,776 (2002 Census).
Founded in 1634 as a Cossack winter settlement Tyukanskoye or Verkhnevilyuyskoye. In 1783, a town of Olensk was built in this place. The town was renamed Vilyuysk in 1821.
A minor planet 2890 Vilyujsk discovered in 1978 by Soviet astronomer Lyudmila Zhuravlyova is named after the town. [1]
