Ville class tugs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Canadian Armed Forces' Maritime Command operates five Ville class harbour tugs.[1][2] The five vessels are the CFAV Lawrenceville (YTL 590), CFAV Parksville (YTL 591), CFAV Listerville (YTL 592), CFAV Merrickville (YTL 593) and CFAV Marysville (YTL 594). Listerville, Merrickville and Maryville are based in CFB Halifax, on Canada's East Coast. Lawrenceville and Parksville are based in CFB Esquimalt.
The Canadian Armed Forces operates six other, larger tugboats, the 140 ton CFAV Tillicum, and five 250 ton Glen class tugs, and two 140 ton Fire class fireboats.[2][3][4] The larger tugs are also split between both coasts.
Canada operated a fleet of 17 ton tugs, built during World War 2, which were also called the Ville class.[2] The current vessels are named after the World War 2 vessels.[5] These vessels were based on the British Pup class tugs.
