[edit] Genre issue
I believe that the HIM website has said/says and that Ville himself has said that the bands music is 'love metal' when asked to classify it. To change the genre will I have to cite this? If you upload one of their cd's onto your Itunes, or even just search them on itunes, HIM comes back as rock or alt. rock. One of the two. And wouldn't the genre bit belong on the HIM wiki to begin with? Also, I deleted someone off of the talk page saying something about changing what is written on Wikipedia. Congratulations but we don't care. --DevilStar 02:42, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- The slight problem is that Love Metal is not an encyclopedic genre, whereas rock/alt are. There is no article detailing what Love Metal is as it's only HIM that use the term and no other bands have been described under this genre making it a non-notable genre to non HIM fans. Also a lot of people, who aren't HIM fans, don't really understand the term Love Metal without having to explain it. But the fact that the band describe themselves as Love Metal is detailed in the HIM article under the genre section along with the other genres in their music. But it's worth a mention bringing up that Ville created the term (with references) in this article. But putting Love Metal in the infobox only confuses the readers who are trying to find out more about the band as there is no article to describe the origin, notability and other bands of this genre. That can explain why it reads "debated" in the info box sometimes. AngelOfSadness talk 21:09, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
First off, my apologies for changing it to "Love Metal" so many times without understanding the issue. Second, I would not classify HIM as Alternative Rock, and iTunes is a bad way to discover musical genres. When I upload Rammstein, some of the albums are "Industrial", some are "Metal", but the CDs are largely the same material. If I were to call HIM a defined subgenre, it'd be Alternative Metal. Alternative Rock brings to mind Matchbox 20, Paulo Nutini, and music much softer than what HIM is capable of. Venus Doom (or Dark Light, I forget which album) is considered Metal by iTunes, so HIM definitely could have that label. Plus, if they started as a Black Sabbath tribute band as I've read elsewhere, they'd definitely be metal. They even use the "War Pigs chord" in Venus Doom's title track. Alternative Rock just seems like a "soft" genre label for Ville and HIM.JohannHenrik (talk) 21:11, 27 May 2008 (UTC)JohannHenrik
[edit] Where did the info go?
It seems everyone has been talking about cleaning up the page and that's nice... Except where did all the information go? There's nothing on here you can't get off their website. Which makes this page a useless placeholder. --68.56.209.11 03:08, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- A lot of it was deleted because it was unreferenced for a long time. I plan to re-insert the text with sources but I can't find the time to do that currently. AngelOfSadness talk 16:18, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
There was a lot of editing done to the page because of referencing links, I know, but with what's left on the page it might as well all be on the HIM wiki page. Either update it or merge it and let someone make a new page. As said... This page is kind of useless at the moment. Riku (talk) 00:31, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- It's not completely useless, I mean you won't find the complete list of his solo projects on the website. If it's merged the list will end up deleted as it is irrelevant information to the band article. I'll do some major edits on this article now and a few more at the weekend. Once it's merged, chances are, no-one will be bothered to re-create it (I say no-one will be bothered because the article has been like this for nearly three months and no-one has done anything to it to improve it besides very minor edits. And that's something I don't what to see happening. AngelOfSadness talk 16:47, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Links clean-up
Woah... Someone really needs to sort the reference links out... a few are un-named, one is in caps... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.16.122 (talk) 03:54, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] early life
is it necessary to have that he was born at 2:28am —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.164.128.82 (talk) 08:55, 6 April 2007 (UTC).
Yes, yes it is. Maurauth 11:31, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
HONESTLY! Now, the same goes for "8:28 am" Why do we need to know this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wickedxjade (talk • contribs) 23:52, 14 April 2007 (UTC).
- It's an unimportant, and at this point, unverifiable piece of trivia that doesn't need to be added and the time kept changing throughout it's period here on Wikipedia, from 2:28 to 8:28. Either way, it's unimportant what minute he was born. — The Future 06:11, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
I know this is unrelated, but this article really needs to cite its sources. The lack of citations makes much of this looks like independent research or speculation. 71.134.227.255 17:55, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Engagement
Is this info correct? He stated in a Radio Bam interview (on 3 December 2007 if my memory is correct) that he was currently single. He's a fast worker if he got engaged four days later...
Edit: I just checked the page cited as a reference and it doesn't mention an engagement, so I think this can probably be removed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.9.146.23 (talk) 23:31, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] This sentence is amusing, but...
not entirely accurate.
"Valo's first musical step was as a three year old bongo drummer."
From memory, the story is more along the lines that one of his father's friends was an elvis impersonator, and one day while the Elvis impersonator was singing Ville started tapping on some bongo drums. I'm sure someone can state it better than that, but the sentence as it currently stands is slightly misleading. (It makes it sound as though it was a major hobby or he was having lessons every week on the bongo's - which if he did, isn't public information and I doubt it anyway). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.9.146.23 (talk) 03:06, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Info
I just looked at this page for the first time and it seems to me there is nothing really about HIM, which is his major work, yet all we get on this page is a few sentances on HIM and then a long list of misleading 'side projects'. Im not sure why they are all quoted as 'something something....& Ville Valo' because i looked at the links from these and it turns out he did guest vocals or something or was in a video, so the description of these seems misleading because it looks like he was involved with them...Drmotley (talk) 15:29, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] rock alternative????? what is your problem????!!!!
alternative rock??????????(like a placebo,radiohead,30stm)... To the ignorant people who put this genre: Do you even know what Alternative Rock is??? How can you label HIM as Alternative Rock??? The latest album might have some elements of it, but HIM is NOT an Alternative Rock band... They have Gothic Rock elements, Metal elements, Glam Rock elements and much more...they are love metal —Preceding unsigned comment added by Albertrocker (talk • contribs) 20:15, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
