[edit] Show information
In the Entourage universe, Viking Quest aired in 1997 on the Sci-Fi channel [1]. The complete series was later released on DVD. The show seems to have developed somewhat of a cult following, and is especially popular in France.[1]
The show's tagline is "From the past... comes a warrior of the future."[2]
[edit] Cast
[edit] Tarvold
The show featured Johnny "Drama" Chase as the lead character, Tarvold. Tarvold has a signature exclamation, "VICTORY!!!"[3]
Tarvold hails from Northumbria.[4]. Tarvold's ship was called the "Gokstad" (possibly a reference to the Gokstad ship).[5]
[edit] Angel
Vanessa Angel appeared in 3 episodes of Viking Quest. Angel went on to star in a spin-off series called Angel Quest, which ran "5 times longer" than Viking Quest.[6] This may be a sly reference to the fact that in real life, Angel was originally cast as Xena in a three-episode arc for the television show Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Angel dropped out, the part of Xena went to Lucy Lawless, and the subsequent spin-off series Xena: Warrior Princess went on to significantly eclipse its predecessor, both critically and commercially.
[edit] Premise
Little has been revealed about the show's premise, but references made to Tarvold's birthplace in Northumbria and his arch enemy Thorfinn Skull-splitter imply that the series was set in the middle of the 10th century AD, and that at least some of the action centred on the Vikings in the Orkney Islands.
[edit] Episodes
Viking Quest ran for 22 episodes.[7] Episode 9 was called "The Thawing". In this episode, Tarvold is frozen for 30 years, and when he wakes up, his wife is remarried.[8]
[edit] Pop Culture
On December 17, 2007 (in real life) during a Monday Night Football game pitting the Chicago Bears vs. the Minnesota Vikings ESPN.com had the front page headline "Viking Quest." At the time the Vikings were in the race for the NFC Wild-Card. ESPN has been known to make casual references to Entourage on several different occasions.
