Viking ADCC (All seasons Day Cruising and Commuting) is the project name of a day cruiseferry ordered by the Finnish ferry company Viking Line. The ship is being built by the Spanish shipyard Astilleros de Sevilla and will be delivered by the summer of 2009. She is planned to be placed on the MariehamnKapellskär route.[4]

[edit] Concept and construction

The Viking ADCC was designed specifically for the needs of the short MariehamnKapellskär service. Many of her features have been designed to minimise environmental impact.[2]

The Viking ADCC was ordered by Viking Line from the Astilleros de Sevilla shipyard in Spain on 2007-01-29. In June of the same year the build contract of the vessel was sold to the Spanish investment bank Basalease SA, who will charter the vessel to Viking Line when completed.[1] Construction of the Viking ADCC begun on 2007-12-18.[5] The keel of the vessel was laid on 2008-05-06. A naming competition for the ship will be held during 2008.[2]

[edit] Service history

The Viking ADCC is planned to enter service on Viking Line's route between Kapellskär (Sweden) and Mariehamn (Åland Islands, Finland) in mid-2009, replacing MS Rosella.[4][6]

[edit] Design

Many of the interior features of the Viking ADCC were suggested by the public in a competition organised by Viking Line.[5] Interiors of the ship have been designed by Tillberg Design, a company that also designed the interiors of the 2008-built MS Viking XPRS. Onboard facilities will include two restaurants, a two-deck high cafeteria, dance bar and conference rooms. Like the Viking XPRS, the Viking ADCC will have separate car decks for freight and passenger cars.[2]
