I had never heard of this guy until I recently viewed Leni Reifenstahl's "Triumph of the Will" in which he is the most prominently featured figure after Hitler, a guy (Lutze) with a very tough thugghish persona. In fact there is a whole emotionally charged scene involved his speech to the SA rally at Nuremberg in 1934 after which he is mobbed by supporters and almost carried away on their shoulders. He is also one of three people, along with Hitler and Himmler, shown walking forward to Hindenburg's bier at the memorial rally for the ex-President and Field Marshal.
