Vigilante is an arcade game released by Irem in 1988, and released in the US by Data East. The game is considered a spiritual successor to Irem's earlier game Kung Fu Master. It was later ported to a number of home computers and consoles including the Sega Master System and the Commodore 64, and the TurboGrafx-16 version was later released for Nintendo's Virtual Console on February 5, 2007 (released on February 9, 2007 for Europe).
[edit] Gameplay
The game involves a lone vigilante who fights an evil gang called The Skinheads, in order to protect his "turf" and rescue his girlfriend Madonna, who was kidnapped by the gang members.
This is a standard side scrolling beat 'em up game similar to Irem's earlier Kung-Fu Master, in which the main character uses punches and kicks to defeat his opponents. He can also occasionally use a nunchaku against his enemies.
[edit] Version differences
The woman kidnapped by the gang was renamed Maria in the Master System version and the Skinheads were called the "Rogues".
