Vienna Independent Shorts (VIS) is an international short film festival that takes place once a year in Vienna. Being Austria's largest short film festival, it was founded in 2004 by the merger of several smaller film festivals and associations. Since 2005, Vienna Independent Shorts is organized by the association Independent Cinema.

The winner of the audience award Golden Shorts 2005 was Stefan Wolner (Austria) with his short film Balls. In 2006, Alexis Ferrebeuf (France) and Mort à l'ecran won the award. In 2007, the award was renamed as Golden Shorts – Short Film Award of the City of Vienna and given by a jury. The winner was Marc Schaus (Belgium) with his film Quelque chose en O.
