excellent, thank you for redirecting to Viðey, how do you do that?

[edit] Viðey or Videy
I'm afraid I have to disagree with the change of name to Viðey. When I saw that word in Category:Yoko Ono I literally could not figure out what I was looking at. It felt like my eyes were crossing as I tried to focus on that utterly unfamiliar character in the middle of the word. I'm sure it's fine if you've grown up with it, but I assure you that the overwhelming majority of English-speaking readers will have reactions similar to mine. If I thought this was even a debatable proposition, I would hold off until we discussed this and came to agreement. But since this is the English language Wikipedia (and not the Icelandic Wikipedia) we're under no obligation to include diacritical marks, especially when they interfere with readability. So, sorry if this seems abrupt, but I honestly see no reason to wait. Cgingold 13:20, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- I've removed the inapproprate Yoko Ono category but there are lots and lots of articles with 'ð' in their names. Someone will eventually move this one back to Viðey, which I think is actually the most common spelling used in English texts. Check Google Books for example, but note that OCR errors are common so you have to guess what 'ð' would be misread as.[1] Also note that Videy is a common OCR mistake for Viðey, see e.g. [2] Haukur 23:23, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
