[edit] Background
The main feud heading into Victory Road is between Samoa Joe and Booker T fighting over the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. This feud began before Slammiversary 2008, when Booker demanded that Joe place him in his four picks to fight against Management Director Jim Cornette's four picks, to fight in qualification matches to be in the King of the Mountain match at Slammiversary. Joe obliged and placed Booker in his four picks. Joe would then state, that he didn't choose Booker because of him demanding him to, but because he felt Booker was tough competition and Joe wasn't backing down or hiding from anyone. Later Booker would defeat A.J. Styles to gain entrance into the match. At Slammiversary, Joe would retain his title in King of the Mountain match. On the June 12 edition of TNA iMPACT!, Joe defended his title against challenger Kaz, after Kaz won the first ever X Division King of the Mountain match on the June 5 edition of iMPACT!. Joe would retain his title again against Kaz. After the match, Booker interrupted and said to Joe that he was cheated out of his chance at the title by Kevin Nash in King of the Mountain and wanted a shot at Joe for the TNA title at Victory Road. He also said to Joe, that if he wasn't backing down from anyone that he would come and find him in his locker room and accept his challenge. Later that night Joe went to Booker's locker room and accepted Booker's challenge to fight him for the World Heavyweight Championship in Booker's hometown of Houston, Texas at Victory Road.
