Victory Birdseye

Victory Birdseye (December 25, 1782 - September 16, 1853) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Cornwall, Connecticut, Birdseye attended the public schools, and graduated from Williams College in 1804. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1807 and commenced practice in Pompey Hill, New York.

Birdseye was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Fourteenth Congress (March 4, 1815-March 3, 1817). He was not a candidate for renomination in 1816. He served as postmaster of Pompey Hill 1817-1838, as district attorney of Onondaga County 1818-1833, and as master of chancery of Onondaga County 1818-1822. He then served as delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1821, and as member of the State assembly 1823 and 1838-1840. He served in the State senate in 1827. He was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1838 to the Twenty-sixth Congress.

Birdseye was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843). He was not a candidate for renomination in 1842, but instead resumed the practice of law. He died in Pompey, New York, September 16, 1853, and was interred in Pompey Hill Cemetery.
