Victoria Derbyshire

Victoria Derbyshire (born 2 October 1968 in Ramsbottom, England) is a British radio broadcaster who currently presents the morning programme on BBC Radio 5 Live between 9am and 12pm.

Victoria attended Bury Grammar School before going on to study English Language and Literature at the University of Liverpool. In 1991, she took a Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at Lancashire Polytechnic in Preston. She worked at BRMB in Birmingham and presented the lunchtime show on BBC CWR in 1994. In 1995 she joined the breakfast show on Manchester's GMR.
In 1998, she started work at Five Live, becoming joint presenter of the breakfast show with Julian Worricker. This show won a Gold Sony Award in 1998 and 2002.
In January 2003, Worricker left the breakfast show and Victoria was partnered with Nicky Campbell. Her sister, Alex, became a newsreader at the station. In October 2003, it was announced that she would replace Fi Glover as host of the morning programme. She began presenting this programme in the summer of 2004. She has also appeared in and worked on a number of television programmes over the past decade including: The Club, Central Weekend, Faking It and The Apprentice - You're Fired.

Victoria's programme is a lively blend of topical debate, news, sport, showbiz gossip and human interest stories. She is largely characterized by her direct and unabashed approach to broadcasting and is now generally acknowledged as one of the mainstays of the station's daytime output.

Victoria became embroiled in a tabloid scandal in 2003 after becoming romantically involved with Mark Sandell, then partner of fellow Five Live presenter Fi Glover.[1] She now lives with Sandell and their two sons. She is known to be intemperately and recklessly litigious.
Victoria is a life-long supporter of Bolton Wanderers Football Club.[2]
