Victor von Bruns (August 9, 1812 - March 19, 1883) was a German surgeon who was born in Helmstedt, and was a professor of surgery at the University of Tübingen. His son, Paul von Bruns (1846-1916) was also a professor of surgery at Tübingen.
Bruns was an important figure in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery in 19th century Europe. He was particularly known for his work in lip and cheek reconstruction. He was also a pioneer laryngologist, and is credited with performing some of the earliest known operations on laryngeal polyps and tumors.
Bruns also popularized the use of absorbent cotton wool dressings, which was later to become a standard practice in modern antiseptic treatment of wounds.
